Lesvos. Beautiful Prison and borderline Europe

Lesvos has been one of the main arrival points for people on the move towards Europe. This independent documentary depicts five women on the island, all with their very own story. They are refugees, volunteers and islanders and together they offer a unique perspective on what happened and still is happening on Lesvos. The film shows the brutalities of the European border regime and horrors that refugees go through in the mass camp Moria. At the same time it celebrates the life outside of the camps: locals, newcomers and activists who collectively create spaces for autonomy, dignity and freedom – in community kitchens, squatted buildings and on the streets.

Die Filmemacherin und Antropologin Laura Heinig war im Frühling und Sommer 2017 auf der griechischen Insel Lesbos, einem der Hauptankunftspunkte für Flüchtende nach Europa. Sie hat dort in selbstorganisierten Strukturen gearbeitet und eine Dokumentation gefilmt. Darin werden vor allem fünf Frauen porträtiert, die Einblicke geben, wie sie die Zustände auf der Insel erleben. Wir lernen eine schwangere Geflüchtete, eine Einheimische und Aktivistinnen kennen. Es geht um das Flüchtlingscamp Moria, das Dunkel, aber auch die Hoffnungen der Menschen um das Camp und in den besetzten Häuser der Insel.

Ramona Sickert vom Sächsischen Flüchtlingsrat fährt seit Jahren an die europäischen Außengrenzen und engagiert sich an den Fluchtrouten. Sie berichtet von ihren letzten Reisen und zeigt Bilder und Kurzfilme von Geflüchteten und Aktivisten.
